Kanawha Man Pleads Guilty to Killing His Wife The State Journal - News for West Virginia’s Leaders

Here’s another article with more detail: http://www.wchstv.com/newsroom/eyewitness/0701/070116-1.shtml
I apologize for missing this. It’s important. As reported in earlier posts, Trey ilderton murdered his wife Robin in 2005. On January 16, 2007, Ilderton pleaded guilty to the crime and was sentenced to life in prison.

I find it disturbing that he will be up for parole in 15 years. Let’s hope that Robin’s family and friends will be able to attend that parole hearing to help prevent his early release.

May he never again feel a guitar string beneath his fingers; may he never forget the warmth of the woman he so coldly -and senselessly, selfishly- murdered. May he awaken each morning to the stark knowledge of his deed and remember all the people whose lives were changed because of it. Just on my little blog, I have met some of them. I hope there can be healing for you all.

And Now She’s Dead: Anna Nicole Smith - Gawker

This won’t get me into Anna Nicole’s will, but I don’t think I was heading that way anyhow.

Favorite quotes:

  • A commentator on CNN said a few hours after her death that “This is certainly an unexpected and very tragic turn of events for Anna Nicole Smith.” Unfortunately, that was both true and also not in any sense accurate.
  • arrr, it’s the curse of Marshall’s treasure.
  • Genie says I have two more wishes left. Any suggestions?

Yes, yes, yes… horrible.

God, Darwin clash again in Kansas

God, Darwin clash again in Kansas - Yahoo! News
Tsk-tsk. I expect this sort of headline from, say, Dog (the Bounty Hunter) and crooks, or Mel Gibson and his arresting officers. Or hell, given the location, Dorothy Gale and the Wicked Witch of the West.

But God and Darwin? My stars! What’s the world coming to, anyway? The creator of the universe and one of his minions -a guy who was born with the gift of curiosity and a strong and clever mind- that is, Darwin, are clashing?

Okay, yes, I am pretending to not get it. Play on words, a feigned Emily Litella moment. Here’s a snippet:

“Some religious groups argue that evolution cannot be proven and is not in accordance with Biblical teachings regarding the origins of life. Teaching evolution misleads and confuses students, opponents say.

“But supporters say religion has no valid role in a science class and evolution is the foundation for understanding key concepts in biology and other scientific fields.”

You know, of course, that what will really confuse the students is switching this stuff back and forth on ‘em. And why is anyone talking -seriously- about Biblical teachings in relation to education in public schools? Someone show me the connection. If it’s such an issue, teach both. And then throw the super-Christian kid and the sciencey kid into a pit and let ‘em go at it.

That assumes that the sciencey kid will not be Christian, or hold some religious beliefs pertaining to the beginning of the universe. And perhaps that’s where the hugest problem in this argument can be found: Science and religion can’t mix? Why can’t we see the scientist as one of God’s creations who, using his God-given brains, is seeking to better understand God’s world? Why can’t someone just say that so the kids can go to school, snap bras, sneak smokes in the bathrooms, and write naughty things on the desks?

I’m not making any friends with this commentary - at least not from the group that wants to quit talking about science in science class and start talking about the good Lord Jesus Christ (and his dad, God) instead.

And really, when you think about it, American children being able to participate as adults in a meaningful way in a competitive international marketplace and forum is not nearly as important as their knowing who to pray to when all the other countries laugh them off the globe.

Oy.
