Obama vows to lead US from dire ‘day of reckoning’ (AP) - Yahoo! News - Yahoo! Buzz

See this response to the above-linked report on the president’s address:

“You can just tell that Obamonkey does NOT believe his own lies if he indeed will attempt to put a positive spin on all his doom-and-gloom rhetoric of the past several weeks. When Obamonkey says the US will emerge stronger, what he really means is the US will emerge more socialist, more irresponsible and more feebly dependent on his big-government dependency social programs than ever before. After all, his fake stimulus packages are designed to solely subject more Americans to the federal government as a crutch, not to help them be self-sufficient. Further, how the hell can Obamonkey LIE so shamelessly that the US will emerge "stronger?" All he’s done is to take over banks, give welfare checks to people who don’t pay taxes, send the markets crashing, and handed out LOTS of pork in his fake stimulus. Not very hopeful at all!”

The rest of the comments are just as idiotic. It’s frightening how people can call someone racist and hateful while they’re being racist and hateful.

Oh, and for the record, just because I “get it” doesn’t mean I dig it. Feline Warrior does not dig it.

Obama Begins Address With Glimmer of Hope Amid Economic Crisis

Dag ya’ll… I’m not even anyone’s mom, but I was SO happy to hear the president tell the good people that responsibility for the education of children begins at home. Yee-freakin’-haw.

I’m just going to imagine that it was written between the lines that “education” includes sex ed as well as the basics of being a human in a world with other human beings. Politeness, courtesy, kindness. (Yes, I said it: kindness, dammit!) You know how I feel about these things: More knowledge is better; people who are educated can make better choices. (Not always, of course, but it certainly helps.)

For all who wondered, I bought a laptop. I need to able to write any old time from any old place. For example, here I am, lounging on the chocolate (-colored, not  edible) loveseat, feet on my leopard print pouf, surrounded by two very soft and delicious kitties. (When I say “delicious” I refer to personalities, not actual flavors.)

Back to Barack Obama’s address: That Nancy Pelosi is a standing ovation enthusiast. If she could, I bet she’d give a standing ovation to standing ovations! And it looks like a full house - I’m glad.

My takeaway quote:

“In our hands lies the ability to shape our world, for good or for ill.”

Tragically absurd: TV exec beheads wife who filed for divorce

Tuesday, February 17th, 2009

I came across this just moments ago, from USA Today

“Muzzammil Hassan is charged with murdering his wife, Aasiya Hassan. Police say she had an order of protection against her husband and he had been kicked out of the house they shared in Orchard Park, near Buffalo.

“They accuse the 44-year-old Hassan of cutting off his wife’s head at the TV station where he launched his Bridges TV network in 2004. In an AP interview, he said he hoped the network would balance negative portrayals of Muslims following the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks.”
